Motivational Interviewing: Skills for Practice
This two day programme aims to:
Motivational interviewing (MI) skills are utilised by a broad range of health and social care professionals in diverse settings to facilitate behaviour/lifestyle change in patients and clients. MI originally developed in the alcohol field has been increasingly used with a range of health behaviours including mental health issues, substance misuse, smoking cessation, diet and exercise programmes. A cornerstone of MI is that it can be delivered in a relatively short period of time with a minimum of professional input making it accessible and cost effective. Motivational interviewing skills are straight forward, easy to learn, easily integrated into ones existing professional repertoire and have a robust evidence/research base. They utilise a humanistic approach which places a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and empowering the client to take responsibility for their own behaviour and collaborative change strategies. |
