Brief Intervention: An Introduction
This is a one day introductory programme which aims to enhance participant’s knowledge & skills in Brief Intervention with a range of health related behaviours including alcohol, Drugs and Mental health.
Brief intervention (BI) skills are utilised by a broad range of health care professionals in diverse settings to facilitate behaviour/lifestyle change in patients and clients. BI originally developed in the alcohol field has been increasingly used with a range of health behaviours including mental health issues, substance misuse, smoking cessation, diet and exercise programmes.
A cornerstone of BI is that it can be delivered in a relatively short time with a minimum of professional input making it accessible and cost effective. Brief intervention skills are straight forward, easy to learn, easily integrated into ones existing professional repertoire and have a robust evidence/research base.
